Important steps you need to take. The Admissions process, Florida Residency status, and Financial Aid must be completed with your proof of High School, GED, or Transcript on transfers with Kendall Campus Evaluations and the proper documentation needed or required by the Admissions/Registration and the Financial Aid offices. IF more than one year inactive then you MUST reactivate your Admissions. Foreign Language Equivalence
Students admitted to MDC with a valid non-English high school diploma (including but not limited to students who have earned a GED in Spanish) or higher credential from a foreign country are deemed by MDC to have met the Foreign Language Competence requirement.
Students whose native language is not English may demonstrate proficiency in their native or other foreign language. A student who demonstrates proficiency in a native language other than English is considered by MDC to have met the Foreign Language Equivalence requirement. The mechanism by which foreign language equivalence may be demonstrated for students in this category is as follows:
In addition to meeting the Foreign Language Competency AA graduation requirement, students transferring to a four-year institution should verify the foreign language requirements with the receiving or transfer institution. Specialized programs at those institutions may require a level foreign language competency higher than that required by Miami Dade College and/or may not accept American Sign Language (ASL) or English for Academic Purposes (EAP) as languages to fulfill these requirements.
Refer to https://www.mdc.edu/main/testing/criteria/foreign_language_competence.aspx
ACCUPLACER Next-Generation (NG)-Beginning November 25, 2019, Miami Dade College administers the ACCUPLACER Next-Generation (NG) as a method to assess students' basic skills. The sections of the test include Reading, Writing, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS), Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF). The test is adaptive. This means that the questions are chosen for you on the basis of your answers to previous questions. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level. Because the test works this way, you must answer every question when it is first given. You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but you cannot leave a question out or come back to it later to change your answer. If you do not know the answer to a question, try to eliminate one or more of the choices. Then pick from the remaining choices.
TESTING COST
Refer to https://www.mdc.edu/main/testing/assessments/accuplacer.aspx
If the student is a fluent English speaker who would not benefit from Level 6 Speech, see the Department Chair for exemption and college class options. Note: Proper placement should be determined taking into consideration all the above rules.

Q&A
What is EAP-English for Academic Purposes?
It is the study of English credit courses in order to better prepare the student for other academic credit courses taught in English.
The basic courses are:
- Students in 4, 5 and 6 levels can include classes like SLS1505, HUM1020, CGS1060C, and MAT* if already placed in Math courses by testing.
In general, a level 4, 5 or 6 student will take two combined courses and attend classes for 6 hours a week. Students in levels 4, 5 and 6 may take other college courses at the same time they are taking EAP courses provided that the pre-requisite for the course is not ENC1101 or bound by the Gordon Rule eligibility criteria. Students shouldn't take more than 12 credits by term depending on their academic records.

- Meeting the criteria established in the Foreign Language Competence section above, or
- An EAP student who has successfully satisfied the Level 6 MDC EAP (English for Academic Purposes) program requirements by courses or placement test has met the foreign language competency, or
- As determined by an MDC World Languages Department Chairperson, Academic Dean or higher-level academic authority. - Students who score 106 or above in PERT reading AND 103 or above on PERT writing may enroll in ENC 1101. PERT scores are valid for two years unless you decide to retake the test after 24 hours of the first attempt with a valid pass to retake it. You must take courses based on your current highest test results. First time taking the test is free and second time $10.00+. Although the PERT is not used as an English proficiency placement test at MDC, it can be used as one of several criteria to advise EAP students for registering in Levels 1500 and/or 1600 Level courses. Students who score 84 or above PERT reading or 237 or above in ACCUPLACER NG reading or writing or 90 or above on PERT writing, must see the department chair or designee for advisement purposes.
